Bioclimatic Cave · Lower Albaicín
The Camarón Suite Bioclimatic Retreat:
Your Design Cave in Granada
A bioclimatic duplex carved into the natural rock of the Albaicín, with ceilings over 3.5 m high and aerothermal underfloor heating and cooling. Next to the Albaicín (Albayzín), a World Heritage Site.

Invisible technology and eco-friendly comfort
The cave brings together two perfect partners: theancient thermal inertia of the rock of the Albaicín and invisible climate control powered byan air-source heat pump with underfloor heating and cooling. You will see no grilles, hear no compressors and feel no draughts: comfort you can feel, but cannot see.
At the height of the Andalusian summer, when Granada exceeds 40 °C, the underfloor cooling gently lowers the rock’s temperature and keeps the cave at around 22–24 °C without drying the air or creating any noise. It is a quiet, efficient solution that is kind to respiratory health, ideal for resting after a long day exploring the Alhambra and the Albaicín.
Summer · Underfloor cooling
Cools the rock passively and silently: no draughts, no drying of the air.
Winter · Underfloor heating
Enveloping warmth radiating from the floor. Clean air, with no dust or noise.
All year · Thermal comfort
The aerothermal system works outside, hidden. Pleasant warmth in winter, coolness in summer.
Bioclimatic cave: your questions answered
Why is a cave a good climate refuge?+
The rock of the Albaicín provides exceptional thermal inertia: it passively maintains a stable temperature all year round, without drying the air or creating noise. In summer, it counters Granada’s heatwaves, while in winter it retains the interior’s natural warmth.
How does the underfloor heating work in winter?+
An air-source heat pump circulates warm water through circuits beneath the floor throughout the cave. Heat radiates upwards evenly, silently and invisibly, without drying the air or stirring up dust, for maximum comfort and energy efficiency.
Is traditional air conditioning used in summer?+
No. The same underfloor circuit is reversed to cool the rock (aerothermal cooling floor), taking advantage of the cave's thermal inertia. No compressor noise, no draughts and a naturally balanced humidity.
How high are the cave’s ceilings?+
The ceilings are over 3.5 metres high, carved directly into the original rock of the Albaicín, with a warm interior design that combines noble materials and cosy light.
